In 1910, Vaughan Williams premiered Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis at Gloucester Cathedral. It has become a famous piece of classical music associated with notions of Britishness and the English landscape. 450 years after Tallis’ original act of composition, Palimpsest serves as a modern reconsideration, employing sounds of the Cotswold countryside as modern musical agents. A tactile score inspired by Inuit cartography helps guide the listener through the composition.
